Qatar Chamber Food Security Committee held a meeting to examine some of the key national strategic projects. The meeting was presided over by QC Board Member and Chairman of the Committee Mohamed bin Ahmed Al Obaidli.
QC Board Member Abdulrahman Al Ansari, Director of Food Security and Environmental Health at Ministry of Public Health Wasan Al Baker, Director of Municipal Control Department of Doha Municipality Salem Hamoud Al Sahfi, Secretary of Qatar Livestock Society Hamad Rashid Mubarak, Director of Standards Department at Qatar General Organization for Standardization and Metrology Mohamed Al Gabor Al Nuaimi and a number of the committee’s members, as well as many owners and directors of agricultural and food projects attended the meeting.
The meeting focused on the draft decision which is being prepared by the Ministry of Public Health on providing appropriate training for those who handle food as well as examining them through a test prepared by the Ministry.
The aim of the move is to ensure the food safety.
On her part, Director of Food Security and Environmental Health at Ministry of Public Health Wasan Al Baker delivered a presentation on the importance of draft resolution and its importance on food safety, noting that the four-stage training program includes all persons who deal with food including manufacturing , transport, storage and catering.
QC Board Member Mohamed Al Obaidli praised the draft resolution, affirmed that it is important to discuss its mechanism of implementation in order to provide program of reasonable cost for business owners and doesn’t delay work at food facilities.
The meeting also discussed the national strategic project of food security which was presented by Assistant Director of Food Security Dept. at Ministry of Municipality and Environment Sara Al Malki.
It also reviewed results of meetings held by many sub-committees including Livestock Committee, Farms Committee, Food Products Outlets Committee and Poultry Producers committee. The Livestock Committee stressed the importance of providing lands for establishing warehouses for feed and encouraging the privates sector to produces feeds as a strategic storage for Qatar’s livestock.
Farms Committee meetings assured the need to identify mechanisms that contribute to supporting productive farms, while Food Products Outlets Committee recommended to promptly take necessary actions for developing vegetables and fruit market in a way coincides with the developments Qatari witnesses.
Poultry Producers committee affirmed the need to review and amend the law of defamation and closure for poultry farms and identify challenges facing the sector as well as suggesting suitable solutions.
